Birth
Joseph Randall, son of William Randall and Sarah Gooding, was born September 10, 1857 after the family moved to Elmira from Wentworth County. His date of birth was recorded when he was baptized at the Peel & Wellesley Station of the Primitive Methodist Church in 1858. The 1861 census backs up the date when Joseph was 4 years old.Margaret Flachs was born August 30, 1859 in St Clements, the daughter of George Flachs. Her mother was named as Amalia Flachs when Margaret was married and as Barbara Schlidt when Margaret died. Her father was a widower when the 1871 census was taken and must have remarried. The date comes from the family entry in the 1901 census and the location from her marriage record, with both facts confirmed in her death record.
Marriage
From the Minutes of St James Church in Elmira, we know Joseph married Margarette Flachs, on February 4, 1878. The marriage is also recorded in the Ontario Vital Statistics, reference #011-011 in 1878, but one day earlier on February 3.
